Getting Started

The Cicerone Certification Program helps build your business by educating your staff on beer flavor, styles, and service. Benefits of training can include:

To start, you want to get everyone who works with beer to become a Certified Beer Server. Candidates earn the tile by taking an online 30-minute exam.

To prepare employees for the Certified Beer Server exam, the Cicerone Certification Program allows managers to choose among various options. The approach you choose will depend on budget, educational timeline, and employee availability for training. When you purchase in bulk, you’ll be able to monitor progress and exam scores online using managerial controls. The two popular approaches to training are 1) online, self-paced individual training, or 2) live, on-site group training. Each approach covers the learning objectives for first level Cicerone certification as described below.

Getting Your Staff to Certified Beer Server

BeerSavvy® Online features self-paced interactive readings, videos, and quizzes. Each time the employee opens the online program, they’ll be brought back to their last lesson screen to pick up where they left off. When they’re finished, they take the included Certified Beer Server exam. Each individual has 90 days from their first access to complete the course’s five to eight hours of training.

Beersavvy® On-Site features live instruction delivered by a Master Cicerone®. The one-day (eight-hour) course uses lecture, handouts, and tasting of both ingredients and beers. The host organization provides meeting space, audio/visual support, and beers for tastings. At the conclusion of the training, employees take the Certified Beer Server exam which is included in the cost of the training.
