Congrats to the two newest Master Cicerones!
We're happy to announce today there are two new Master Cicerones—Patrick Rue of the Orange County, CA brewery The Bruery and James Watt of Scotland's BrewDog become the eighth and ninth indviduals to earn the title of Master Cicerone. Both Rue and Watt sat for the Fall 2014 Master Cicerone exam that took place in the Los Angeles area on October 22 and 23. Rue becomes the first Southern Californian to earn the title, while Watt is the first European.
“We are thrilled to have two such accomplished and distinguished members of the brewing community join the ranks of the Master Cicerones,” said Ray Daniels, founder and director of the Cicerone Certification Program. “I know they will both be great representatives of this certification as they continue to make a mark on the beer industry.”
Cicerone Certification Program
Founded in 2007, the Cicerone program conducts examinations of beer knowledge for certification at four levels. Thousands of people who work for breweries, beer wholesalers, restaurants, bars, liquor stores and grocery stores have completed one or more levels of the certification program in the past year. Doing so demonstrates knowledge of beer keeping and service, beer styles, flavors, brewing process and ingredients and beer and food pairing.
